[/caption] The official CrossFit competition season opens Feb. 22 when the first workout of the Reebok CrossFit Games Open will be released here: Games.CrossFit.com. Last year, over 26,000 people competed around the globe competed, and this year the CrossFit HQ Games team is expecting thousands more to throw their sports bras and knee socks into the ring. Starting today, you can create a profile, pay a small fee and register to compete in the individual category (open category plus four masters divisions from 45-60+). Individual competitors can also join the CrossFit 204 team, which is now set up. Starting Feb. 22, the Games site will release one workout each Wednesday for completion by Sunday night. At CrossFit 204, we will be working versions of the Open events into our programming so everyone has a chance to try them. These will be just for fun but will give you a chance to see what you can do. If you do want to compete in the Open, it’s a great chance to be a part of a huge global CrossFit event and see how you stack up against the fittest on Earth. Your workouts will be judged and scored at the gym, and your scores will be uploaded to the Games site, where you’ll be ranked against athletes from all over Canada West – and the world. Top athletes will earn a trip to the regional event in spring, where they’ll fight for a chance to get to the CrossFit Games, held every summer in Carson, Calif. We’d also love to send a CrossFit 204 team to the regional event for the first time. We’ve tentatively booked the Friday 8 p.m. slot from Feb. 24-Mar. 23 for our registered competitors to do the Open WODs under strict judging and scoring. We figure if you’re serious about competing, you aren’t doing anything with your Friday nights. We’ll also be using the Sunday Dale’s Garage sessions to accommodate anyone who couldn’t make the Friday slot. We might even get together with another gym to hit the workouts if equipment, time and space allow. Other athletes can absolutely come on Friday night to watch, help and cheer on our competitors! There is no pressure to compete, but if you want to, we’re behind you 100 percent. If you’re interested in competing, register on the CrossFit Games website and email to let me know you’re ready to go. We’ll also ask some of our experienced athletes to help with judging. After we know who’s competing, we’ll sort out the details, arrange the judges, set up the team and cheer you on as we go head to head with CrossFitters from here to Vancouver. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Mike or Crystal (). Good luck – and let the Games begin!
